On Value System

The problem with modernity and post modernity is that of a value system. It appears as if modern society chooses which value system to practice because of the error of economic dynamics of world order. It is a fact that value system forms the foundation upon which the human action revolves. There are some nations noted for economic richness but suffering from value systemic poverty. These countries should take the backstage in matters of morals and allow countries with value optimism to lead in global moral actions. Humanity must work for value rebirth and sow the culture of life.

I disagree to the fact that Africans did not have conscience before colonialism in Africa. Africans had conscience but were only ignorant prior colonialism which resulted into less or reduced violence, turmoil and a slower rate of social transformation which is as a result associations with change of revolution.
Before Africa was colonized, the continent was characteristics by a large degree or number of pluralism and flexibility. The continent considered not of close reproduction entities, equipped with unique unchanging culture, but of more fluid units that would readily incorporate outsiders (even whites) into the community as long as they accepted it’s customs, and where the sense of obligation and solidarity went beyond that of the nuclear family.
Examples of such inclusiveness were the xhosa, who limited xhosadom not along ethnic or geographical lines but along political. All persons or groups who accepted the rule of the paramount chief became xhosa.
In the years immediately after colonial rule, the tempo of events in Africa quickened and the various standard of revolt were drawn together.
African revolution so far has already demonstrated convincingly that what has been used as a badge of servility can be turned into a bound of unity and liberation tool. Pre-colonial Africa had pre-capitalist class structures ranging from slave ownership to feudalism but following colonialism.
Africans were commodified as slaves followed by arbitrary creation of unworkable states, and now has been reincarnated in neo colonialisms garb and submits that the true and lasting peace and harmony can be achieved by the human race only if western capitalism and advances in science and technology aligned with the pre-industrial, pre-capitalist and pre-racialist and human values.
In most pre-colonial Africa worlds, there were folktales, legends, myths, proverbs and various forms of song as an important literary sub-genre. In the traditional world of the people of the present Obudu and Obanliku areas of Nigeria for example the song was a major medium of social construct.

In order to hold a point view of this topic either for or against, one must first understand the term in question.
Conscience; is the moral sense of right and wrong chiefly as it affects one’s own behavior.
With the definition one knows what the term is about. The pre-colonial African societies were of a highly varied nature. They could be either stateless, state run or kingdoms but most were founded on the principles of communalism in that they were self governing, autonomous entities, and in that all members took part, directly or indirectly, in the daily running of the tribe.
There are various forms through which one can explain and back up its point that Africans had conscience prior colonialism. One form of explaining my point here is the communal life style of the Africans prior colonization.
Africans before now lived a communal life whereby they share everything in common without disparities. They lived a brother-hood life where the interest of person affects the others and such a communal life style can be said to have the content of conscience because it is only through the knowledge of what is right or wrong that such a practice could be adhere strictly to because they had an atom of conscience they could thus live communality.
The idea of providing shelter for themselves before colonialism is also a form the existence of conscience in Africa. They knew that they needed a shelter to cover themselves after the wondering days in the forest and this is an evidence of conscience because they could understand the effect and non-effect of having a shelter.
Africans and man generally had conscience prior colonialism and this was after man’s disobedience to God in the Garden of Eden. After that time man became aware of conscience since then till date. Another way of proving that Africans had conscience is through their religious faith. Prior to this time Africans practice their indigenous religion known as African Traditional Religion. (ATR). And this basic characteristic of this religious practice is the belief in the supreme being (God), the believe in Ancestors, Spirit and divinities. And the believe in all these is as a result of the conscience they posses. They already have the knowledge that their believes works according to their experience of the past on it, thus the knowledge in the power of their supreme being and adhering to the practices or norms and regulations of their religious faith shows that Africans knew that there are good and bad behavior pattern that the good one is what is required by their religious faith so therefore they choose to behave in accordance to that which is good and required by their faith.
The practice of African Traditional Religion which is guided by religious moral or norm show that African prior to colonialism had conscience because the ability to adhere strictly to their religious morals or rule shows that they knew and could separate what was right from wrong.
Finally, Africans prior to colonialism knew about conscience and this could be analyzed in various forms even as I have stated above thus; I take my stand on the fact that Africans prior colonialism had conscience.

My argument is based on the fact that African had conscience prior colonialism looking at the meaning of conscience. Conscience is a faculty or judgment that assists on distinguishing right from wrong. It is the ability to discern the difference between right and wrongs or good and bad, conscience is natural. It is one of the dimensional feature in humans, so therefore Africans had conscience before the colonial era.

Some anthropologist believes that conscience or right reasoning is a source of divine mandate or morality so therefore primitive African has conscience before the colonization period.

It was a result of these conscience that they were ale to have culture and religion which is as old as the existence of man. They had normal practices, norms, values, symbols which serves as identity for African before the advent of the British colonial order some of the evil practices that place in Africa societies were as a result of ignorance and lack of knowledge. But due to the availability of conscience, Africans were able to adapt to the new change of the colonial masters. With this few point of mine I have been able to convince you that Africans has conscience prior colonialism.
