On viable path to national cohesion

Nigeria is a country populated by different ethnic nationalities. The emergence of the country was through a colonial instrument of coercion and brutal oppression of the indigenous peoples of the Northern and Southern regions. Nigeria was not a country of the consensus of the indigenous peoples. The rest is history, including the series military incursions into democratic affairs of the citizenry. Ever since then, events upon events have shown that all is not well with the Nigerian people. 

It is now more than ever to craft  national cohesion through openness to dialogue; impartial distribution of the common wealth; and a robust electoral tradition. Above all, the present lopsided federal system should be overhauled so as to achieve inclusivity in the realm of governance and followership. It is time for these to take place in order to achieve sustainable development in Nigeria.

The Plights of Anambra State

Anambra State, the light of the nation, under Governor William Obiano, appears to be receding into the pre-Peter Obi era when the facilities were decayed and insecurity was prevalent, and the land seemed cursed. Anambra State is no longer working as poor roads, erosion, dirt, insecurity and apathy reign supremely in all areas of the state. The Anambra Airport is a mirage and the planned Bonded  Terminal at Ozubulu is a dream as well as the Light Train system connecting River Niger with the former. Governor William Obiano should wake up from his sleep of poor leadership by renewing the contract with the citizens through a public apology laced with a new spirit to move Anambra forward in the direction of the ANIDS as conceived and enforced by Peter Obi. Anambra cannot work merely by tauting the so called 21/21 even as the state is losing its premier positions in indices of development as recorded during the Peter Obi era. Strides of development in Awka, Nnewi and Onitsha are now wishful thoughts as criminality, dirty environments, potholes, flooding, elephant projects, propaganda, abandoned projects (especially roads) and empty promises have become the perennials of the state. The All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) should find ways of helping Governor William Obiano to touch base with Ndi Anambra by walking around the state to see the quantum decay of utilities, abysmal absence of utilities, and a dearth of required vision needed to sustain the Anambra paradigm of excellence by Peter Obi. We hope Governor William Obiano would do the needful and Anambra shall work again in the spirit of ANIDS and Ojukwu's vision for Ndigbo. Let the Light of the Nation shine again for us and the nation.

The 2019 General Elections

Nigerians ought to distinguish between political fixation and political awareness in their overall search for candidates, especially the forthcoming 2019 general elections. Political fixation causes unreasonable thronging to the ruling parties (PDP, APC, APGA, etc) at the expense of political awareness that should have helped the citizens to choose good politicians who are desirous of serving the people but are not known due to their less attractive parties —- non-ruling parties. Nigerians should break away from PDP, APC, APGA, etc, and vote new politicians in some of the newly registered parties. This is called a mass break from political fixation and an embrace of political awareness. For sure, if applied to the 2019 general elections, Nigeria would grow again and would also work again, and this might restore the hopes of millions of the citizenry who share with Achebe’s ‘There was a country’, and thus make Achebe to ‘smile’ that a country is evolving.

It is our hope that the newly unveiled Nigeria Air shall not travel the path of the dead Nigerian Airways.

On T. Y. Danjuma’s Statement

T. Y. Danjuma’s statement opens up the Biafra conversation and the action taken by the gallant and fearless General Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu in defense of his people. Danjuma was on the other side, and now, he seems to have regained his sight to see what Ojukwu saw in the 1960s. Folks, share your thoughts. - CAO

Protem Executive and Members of the NNEWI CATHOLIC DIOCESAN STUDENTS (NCDS), Uniport Chapter.

My dear brothers and sisters, I thank you for attending today's (Sunday, February 25, 2018) maiden and inuagural meeting of the NNEWI CATHOLIC DIOCESAN STUDENTS (NCDS), Uniport Chapter, at the Chaplaincy Hall of the Chapel of the Annunciation Catholic Chaplaincy, University of Port Harcourt, Rivers, Nigeria. Today's maiden and inaugural meeting was a fulfilled dream -- for since 2014, I had been nurturing a dream for the existence and establishment of NCDS in Uniport. Through the NCDS, it is my hope of anchoring on the Christian faith and morals in helping all the members to attain their greater heights in self-renewal, academic excellence, spiritual rejuvenation, and enlightened self-reliance. It is our collective hope that the protem executive and all the members will be committed to achieving the aims and objectives of the NCDS. Again, be rest assured of my robust mentorship towards raising a generational and transformational leaders for the Church and society. I congratulate all the members for attending today's meeting and urge the executive to follow our roadmap towards membership drive and preparing for subsequent meetings and programme of events. - CAO

4th Memorial of our Mother, Onyemaechi Elizabeth Onyiloha

Today marks the 4th Memorial (2013-2017) of the Death of our beloved Mother and Matriarch, Onyemaechi Elizabeth Onyiloha (1934-2013; Nee Nwosu, Nne Fada & Nneokwukwe). Mama, you are always alive in our hearts, thoughts and prayers. We love you and we miss you! Ada Ezeana na Uduego, rest in peace!!

Nigerian nation in need of leadership

The Nigerian nation needs transformational leadership at all levels of the life of the country. Nigerians should appraise this difficult time for moral and ethical transformation aimed at making oneself and others better citizens and leaders of our time. Enlightened empowerment and attitudinal change are mostly needed now to arrive at a better Nigerian society where rule of law, godliness and hard work reign in the society. The Christian Legacy Initiative (CLI) enjoins Nigerians to stop complaining and do the legal and ethical needful in order to put Nigeria back on the track of greatness. All hands must be on deck!
